Masthead
The masthead on this front cover is spread across the whole width of the magazine; the company has put the masthead here to grab the audiences attention. Here the masthead is in a conventional place for a magazine, at the top of the page. The masthead will be the same in every edition of the magazine, this is because it is like the logo of the company. Seeing it will make people associate it with the magazine. The colour of the masthead is gender neutral, thus advertising the magazine to an audience of all genders. The colour of the masthead also contrasts the dark background of the magazine making it stand out. The typography of the masthead make's it clear it is in fact the masthead, as it is different to the other headings on the cover. Having a clear masthead is important because it is what differentiates one magazine from another.
Main Image
The main image is an important part of a cover, here it advertises the main article of the magazine. Here the main image is of the actor Seth Rogen. He has been selected to be the main image because he is well known, and the company probably paid a lot of money to have a interview with him. So the company wants to advertise that they have an interview with the celebrity. By having him on the front cover it attracts his fans to buy the magazine. The main image here is cutting through the masthead, making it clear that it is important. It is more important than the name of the magazine. Also by having it cut through the masthead it makes it the first thing the audience sees.
Main Feature
The main feature is in bold font drawing the eye to it. The colour of it also follows the simple, but effective colour scheme of the magazine (white and grey). After the main image and the masthead, the main feature is the next thing the audience sees. It advertises the main story of the magazine. It is also conventionally connected to the main image. Here it is advertising an interview with Seth Rogen, who is pictured in the main image.
Feature Stories
The feature stories advertise the other main stories. They have been purposely placed at the left of the cover, as this is what will be on show when the magazine is on the shelves. The feature stories are in a smaller, but still bold font. This is because they need to stand out from the background.
Sky Line
The sky line is conventionally used to advertise other things in the magazine, such as 'freebies'. The typography used for the skyline is smaller and more subtle than the other typography, because it is less important than the rest of the information on the cover. It also fills a gap at the top of the cover, where the masthead has been moved down, making everything look more in place.
Date/Price
The date and price are conventionally grouped together in the bottom right hand corner of the cover. They are printed in a small typography. The price is small because the company doesn't want to put the customer off of buying the magazine because of the expense, before they have been attracted by the contents. The date is also smaller because it is not a extremely important piece of information.
Slogan
The slogan is placed at the bottom of the cover. It is bold, however smaller than the other typography on the cover. This is because it isn't advertising any particular article in the magazine. However it is still included on the cover of the magazine because the slogan is associated with the magazine.
